Da das Wetter heute etwas besser sein sollte, kein Hagel :), sind wir auf unserm Weg zurück nach Melbourne noch mal ein Stück der Great Ocean Road gefahren.

Als erstes sind wir bei der “Logans Beach Whale Nursery” vorbei gefahren, da es ab Mai möglich ist, Wale an der Südküste Australiens zu sehen. Leider hatten wir kein Glück.

Danach ging es weiter. Der erste benannte Aussichtspunkt war “The Grotto”. Da die Küste größtenteils aus Sandstein besteht, wird dieser kontinuierlich durch den Einfluss des Wetters und der Wellen verändert, ein Ergebnis davon sind “Grotten”,

oder auch die “Thunder Cave”.

Ein anderes Ergebnis sind Bögen. So wie sie in Utah auf dem Hochland stehen, stehen sie hier direkt an der Küste im Meer.

Wenn die Bögen irgendwann einstürzen entstehen einzelne Türme, wie die “12 Apostels”.

Den Weg zum Aussichtspunkt hat sich Kristina trotz Warnhinweis getraut.

Diese “Türme” stehen auch in der “Bay of Islands”, an der blanken Küste merkt man besonders den eisigen Arktiswind.

Immerhin hatten wir keinen Regen, sodass wir einigermaßen gut an den Aussichtspunkten ankommen konnten. Teilweise hatten wir sogar Sonnenschein, sodass wir die Landschaft richtig genießen konnten, Obwohl Grace zum Teil keine Lust auf das Wetter hatte.

Dass die Great Ocean Road ein beliebtes Reiseziel für Touristen ist, merkt man auch an der Beschilderung.

Great Ocean Road the Second

Since the weather was supposed to better, no hail :), we headed back to Melbourne along the Great Ocean Road once again.

First we headed to “Logans Beach Whale Nursery”, as Whales can be seen as early as May along the south coast of Australia. Sadly we didn’t have any luck.

So we headed on. The first named Scenic Lookout was “The Grotto”. The coast is mostly sandstone, so it is constantly changed by the elements and the waves pounding on it, one result is grottos in the coastline,

or even caves like the “Thunder Cave”.

Another result are arches. As they stand on the highlands in Utah, they stand here at the coast in the sea.

Wenn the arches collapse only the “towers” remain as the “12 Apostles”.

Even Kristina walked the trail to the lookout despite the warning sign.

These “towers” stand also in the “Bay of Islands”, at the clear coast one can really feel the cold Arctic wind.

At least we didn’t have rain, so we could reach the lookouts quite well. Sometimes we even had sunshine, so that we could enjoy the scenery, even though Grace had no desire to deal with the weather.
