Heute war unser Ziel der Yellowstone National Park. Als Eingang haben wir uns den Nordöstlichen Eingang ausgesucht.
Dieser liegt am nächsten zu unserem Hotel. Da saisonbedingt die US-212 am Bear-Thooth-Pass noch geschlossen ist mussten wir den Umweg über die US-310/WY-120 und den Chief Joseph Scenic Byway nehmen.
Dieser ging auf fast 2500 Meter hoch und führte uns mit einigen Serpentinen über die Rocky Mountains.
Kurz vor dem Ziel (10km) war die Straße jedoch gesperrt… also konnten wir umkehren und uns einen anderen Eingang suchen. Durch die Sperrung haben wir einen ca. 2 stündigen Umweg gemacht.
Der bei der Aussicht aber fast jede Minute Wert war.
Als wir den Weg zurück über die Rocky Mountains geschafft hatten, haben wir uns die Ortschaft Cody als Ziel ausgesucht um uns neu zu orientieren. Im Internet nach geschaut, haben wir uns für den östlichen Eingang zum Yellowstone entschieden.Im Yellowstone angekommen konnten wir einige Tiere,
die Mammoth Hot Springs
und einiges an Landschaft sehen.
Morgen fahren wir noch einmal in den Yellowstone National Park, zu Old Faithful. Danach geht es in Richtung Salt Lake City.
Yellowstone
Today our goal was Yellowstone National Park. For the entrance we decided on the north east entrance, which was the closest one to our hotel. Since the US-212 was closed for the season at the Bear-Tooth-Pass we had to take an alternate route along US-310/WY-120 and the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway.The route took us to an altitude of 2500 Meter to get over the Rocky Mountains.Shortly before our destination the road was closed… so we could turn back and look for another entrance. Because of the road closure we drove for 2 hours and ended up were we started.But because of the view and scenery the detour was almost worth every minute.After we made our way back across the Rocky Mountains, we headed for the Town of Cody to get our bearings. We looked up another entrance on the internet, checked the road closures again… and headed for the east entrance to Yellowstone.Inside of Yellowstone we saw a lot of animals,the Mammoth Hot Springsand a lot of beautiful landscapes.Tomorrow we’ll head into Yellowstone again and go to Old Faothful, afterwards we’ll head in the direction of Salt Lake City.
